Project Overview
The planned rest area facility is located on the west side of Highway 11 (southbound), 500 m north of an existing picnic area, on a site that had been previously developed. The planned rest area will include a 24/7 heated facility with washrooms, running water and indoor waiting area along with a parking and picnic area that will offer a welcoming and safe space for travelers on Highway 11.
The Study is following the approved environmental planning process for a Group ‘B’ project in accordance with the MTO Class Environmental Assessment for Provincial Transportation Facilities and Municipal Expressways, 2024 (Class EA).

Key Steps
Undertake environmental investigations at the site
Generate and evaluate alternative site layouts for the new Kahshe River rest area
Consult with review agencies and the public
Identify the preferred site layout for the new Kahshe River rest area
Confirm the potential environmental impacts of building the new Kahshe River rest area and develop mitigation measures, as required
Prepare a Transportation Environmental Study Report (TESR) and make it available for a 30-day comment period
